What is the resell value?
I occasionally get a call from people who have purchased a system on ebay or another
source. They generally pay several hundred dollars for the system that includes the dish,
transmitter arm, and indoor unit – and a large freight bill to have it delivered to them.
What they do not realize is that the cost of the hardware is insignificant in value to having
an FCC certified installer install said system on a time and materials basis. Most
installation charges run between $250-550 dollars. Given that, if the system was not
given to you it makes very little sense not to purchase a new system from a qualified
dealer.
I have suggested to customers that if they move, and their initial period of 15 months has
been fulfilled, they should contact us for a movers special. We would price a new system
for the old owner at a discount and discount the new owner installation. We can only do
this since we will have two customers instead of one. In other words, do not attempt to
move the dish, transmitter arm, or indoor DWx000 unit. Sell them with the house. Have
the new owner work with CPE Labs to re-commission the system once they move in.
What if I really want to sell the system? CPE Labs will offer a fair market value for the
equipment. Still, most will try to sell on ebay or another method for a better price. Caveat
emptor.
